Welcome to Assumption Early Learning Center!

3abnreb0als6ebib2n10kut6nml.jpgHello, my name is Mrs.Shelley Michael - Director of Childcare Services for Assumption Parish. I oversee The Assumption Early Learning Center, serving children ages 6 weeks to 6 years and the After School Activity Program serving  the Parish School children. I feel truly blessed working in a setting where my creativity and resourcefulness benefits children and their families.

In February of 2001 the parish felt it was necessary to offer Catholic Education to children ages three to eighth grade. Monsignor Dempsey offered me a position to start up a preschool program for the parish. I was so happy to join such a great mission and believe it was a calling from God. We worked diligently to get the preschool rolling and on our first day of school, April 29, 2001 - we were set with four children. (Boy was I nervous!) Over the years, we have made tremendous enhancements. In 2004, we added a Toddler Program and in 2010, we added the ever so needed Infant Toddler Program.

Our center is licensed through Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and in 2007 achieved voluntary accreditation by the state of Missouri. It has been a long journey, and we are so proud of our hard work. Our prayers were truly answered.

The Assumption Early Learning Center (AELC) is an outreach of Assumption’s mission to teach our children in a loving and Catholic focused environment. The AELC serves our community by providing a warm and loving environment for children from six weeks to six years of age. In addition, the AELC offers a summer camp program. The AELC could use volunteers who enjoy working with children, are patient and are prepared to serve in an active role with the children.

Our Learning Center:

  • provides a Christian environment that is friendly and child-centered;
  • provides a safe and secure environment for developmentally-appropriate academic and physical activities;
  • encourages parent involvement;
  • has low staff to child ratio with well qualified and dedicated staff;
  • is committed to working within the Project Construct Philosophy; and
  • is non-public school accredited.
