Assumption Ride Program

The transportation subcommittee provides non-emergency transportation to those parishioners who do not or cannot transport themselves. We provide transportation to the grocery store, bank, doctor’s visits, physical therapy or other necessary trips.

Bereavement Committee

The Bereavement committee calls on those who have lost a loved one, via phone, and offers their support by being a good listener. We help with an All Souls Memorial Masses each year. The committee meets once annually to prepare for the Memorial Masses.

Health and Wellness/Blood Drive

Our mission is to positively influence Assumption parishioners to be good stewards of their bodies and to teach them to develop an understanding of the relationship between faith and health.

The blood drive is an annual event run in conjunction with the Red Cross. Our volunteers contact potential blood donors to schedule appointments for donations and help the Red Cross run the blood drive.

Christmas Giving Tree

The Christmas Giving Tree provides more than 1200 gifts for seven organizations helping those in need located throughout the St. Louis area. As an example, gifts are provided for the boys at St. Joseph’s Home, teenagers at the Kids House and Father Dunne’s, and for homeless men at St. Peter and Paul Shelter. The generous people of Assumption return their gifts on the Sunday two weeks prior to Christmas. After the noon Mass, more than 100 men, women and children take all the gifts to the church basement for sorting and packing. Each organization is responsible for picking up their gifts. The Christmas Giving Tree is another manifestation of the generous spirit of Assumption Parish.

Christmas Sponsor-A-Family

The Christmas Sponsor-a-Family program provides individuals and organizations the opportunity to provide clothing, gifts and food for a family in need at Christmas. Families are made known to us from the Assumption area, and by our sister parish, St. Elizabeth, Mother of John the Baptist (St. Louis). There are no scheduled meetings, and most work is done in the October to December time frame. Information regarding the programs is communicated in the Good News Messenger.

Communion to Sick/Homebound

This group consists of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who give their time by bringing the Holy Eucharist to those who are sick or homebound. There are no scheduled meetings.

Delmar Gardens Volunteers

Assumption volunteers are active at Delmar Gardens South Nursing Home for Catholic religious services on Wednesday and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Besides assisting at these services, volunteers make friendly contact and cheery conversation with the more than 100 Catholic residents.

Knights of Columbus

The Fr. Griffin Council of the Knights of Columbus is composed of Catholic men primarily from Assumption, Seven Holy Founder and Our Lady of Providence parishes. The Council supports all three parish schools, schools of religion, youth ministries, Pro-Life activities, special parish needs, the community’s handicapped, Cardinal Glennon Hospital and those in the service to our country. Meetings are held twice monthly.

Post Funeral Meals

The Post Funeral Meals committee provides a luncheon in the church lower level for any family that has a funeral from Assumption parish. There is no charge to the family; donations to the parish are appreciated. This committee is an active group with five teams and over 300 volunteers. The team leaders meet once a year, in late fall, to review the returns from the Time and Talent surveys and organize teams for the upcoming year.

Pro-Life Committee and Pro-Life Foundation

The Pro-Life Committee works to create and sustain respect for life at every stage of its existence. They do this through prayer services, spiritual adoption, educational leaflets and fundraising for Pro-Life causes. The Pro-Life Foundation is a major fundraiser for the Pro-Life Committee. Pro-Life Foundation members donate on one of three levels: Gold–$125/year, Silver–$75/year or Bronze–$25/year. Depending on the level of membership, individuals are eligible to win $50 in a monthly drawing and/or are invited to the annual spring dinner at which $250 is awarded to one member. All proceeds are donated to Pro-Life causes throughout the Diocese. Meetings are held every other month.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a charitable organization whose mission is to assist the poor and needy of this area. They provide both material and spiritual assistance to anyone who requires help. They operate a food pantry which is located in the lower level of the church, and also provide financial assistance to those who may need help in paying for rent, utilities, medicine or any other necessities. They are supported entirely by contributions of food and financial gifts from the people of Assumption Parish. The group meets twice monthly. Anyone interested in finding out more about the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and its work is welcome to attend any of the meetings without obligation. To learn more, click HERE

Tithing for the Poor

The Tithing for the Poor committee meets quarterly to choose six organizations each quarter to receive funds collected from our monthly collections. Benefactors may include needy churches, food pantries or educational assistance programs. New members are welcome.

World Missioners

The Daily World Missioners is an organization operated exclusively in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Members pray, sacrifice and give alms on a daily basis to the missions. They make some sacrifice every day and should provide a minimum of 25 cents a day for the missions. The organization began as a by-product of the World Mission exhibit held in 1951 and 1952. We are always looking for new members. Members have to attend one orientation meeting.
