Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

1dhp0scp8e8cf3gwhh1t2budgtl.jpgAnyone interested in becoming a member of the Catholic Church, and particularly a member of Assumption Parish, is warmly welcomed. As a parish family, we seek to be a welcoming community of faith, with our doors open to all who genuinely seek the Lord, desire to live the Gospel and are willing to accept the discipline and faith of the Roman Catholic Church.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program is for individuals, whether adult, youth or child, who desire to know more about the Catholic faith. Individuals can include those who are non-baptized or baptized members of another denomination or those who were baptized as Catholic but never instructed in the faith. Age-appropriate programs are arranged depending on the individual needs of the adult, youth or child.

The RCIA is a program of education and faith formation in the teachings, practices and prayers of the Catholic faith. Many Catholic churches have a specified timeline that requires RCIA candidates to take group classes in the Fall and prepare to receive their sacraments on Easter Sunday. At Assumption, that is not the case. There is no "cut-off" date or long waiting period to begin learning about the Faith. Anyone who is interested in becoming Catholic can contact us at any time during the year to begin their RCIA instruction. One of our RCIA instructors will work with you individually or in a small group to prepare you to receive the fullness of the Sacramental Grace of Jesus Christ through His Church.

Those in the RCIA program also are presented to the parish at various ceremonies that occur during Sunday liturgies, marking stages of growth. Attendance at a weekend retreat or Parish Mission week is encouraged, at which time candidates discern their decision to pursue initiation.
