Letter from Father Seper regarding our new infant program:
Guess Who's Expecting? Assumption ELC.
Do you remember all the conversation, deliberation and planning that led to converting the old convent into our Assumption Parish Early Learning Center? I understand that it was an undertaking of some years, born of faith in Jesus Christ, to evangelize, and to server the needs of young families. So, it happened. In February of 2001, Msgr. Tom Dempsey offered a position to Mrs. Shelley Michael to start a preschool program at Assumption Parish. And, on April 29, 2001, our Early Learning Center opened its doors, welcoming four students.
Today, our ELC is a fully licensed facility, and has earned Accreditation by the State of Missouri (2007). In these past nine years, the ELC has served nearly 500 little ones and their families, with either full-day or half-day classes, from two to five days per week. In addition, the ELC offers Before Care (7:00-9:00 a.m.), and Aftercare (3:00-6:00 p.m.).
Now, in response to repeated requests by our young families, we have begun a further ELC enhancement. Through these summer weeks, modifications will be made to one of the rooms in the ELC, along with the construction of ramps into the building, to provide for Infant Care. Presently, we await the final approval of our plans, the issuance of permits, and then the work can begin. When complete, we will be able to serve up to 8 infants, 6 weeks old and older. This is great news, and we hope that all will be ready by the beginning of September.
The parishioners of Assumption Church demonstrate a continued commitment to the evangelization and formation of children, through our Catholic Education ministries.
Our Catholic Schools:
- Early Learning Center
- Before Care and After Care Programs
- Summer Camps
- Vacation Bible School
- Assumption Parish School
- Parish School of Religion
- Athletic Association: sponsoring basketball, baseball, softball, golf, soccer, track, volleyball
- Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
- High School Youth Ministry
All of this would not be possible if not for the faith-filled stewardship of our parishioners, as well as the necessary partnerships of parents and teachers, of volunteers and ministries, of parish and archdiocese. It takes the concerted effort and vision of an entire parish, working together by Gods grace, to make Catholic Education a reality for our children. When we do our best, in prayer and ministry, then we see the Glory of God revealed working among us, in us and through us. Thank you, for all that you do to make Assumption Parish a GREAT parish. And, Thanks be to God!
May God bless us all with a fun, refreshing, wholesome and holy summer.
Sincerely yours in Jesus,
Fr. John Seper
