ask all parishioners to keep our Confirmands and second graders in
their prayers by becoming a prayer partner. This is simple.
Select a prayer card from the basket next to the photo displays in
church this weekend and then pray for the child whose name is on the
card. Your prayers are a wonderful way to share our faith with
our children. Coming Soon–PSR Registration for the 2010–2011 School Year Registration will begin the week of April 26th. We are doing something new this year: registration via email. reason the PSR community is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Assumption
Parish St. Vincent De Paul Society food pantry. Recent fluctuations in the economy have
contributed to an increase in the number of people needing assistance. Donations of non-perishable food items, such
as soups, stews, pasta, sauces, canned goods, and boxed dry goods help make possible
the fine work of the St. Vincent De Paul Society. We will be collecting non-perishable food
items throughout the month of February. Just look for the collection box at the
front lobby of the school. Welcome Back to

Chaminade, and Priory are prepared for the reception of the Sacrament of
Confirmation in their home parish, not in their school setting. Anyone wishing to know more about this
preparation process at Assumption Parish should contact Mrs. Donna Koppy as

during PSR classes? Parents, mark your
calendars! Monday, November 23, 2009, is the date for PSR Parent-Teacher
Conferences. Parents will meet with

8:00 p.m. PSR classes will not be in session on
November 23, 2009. Sponsor-A-Family at Christmas Assumption PSR
students and families will be participating in the annual Sponsor-A-Family at
Christmas program. PSR students will be
making ornaments for the parish Giving Trees. Each PSR class will be assigned a family
member from our parish. The Sponsor-a-Family
at Christmas program asks parents and students from each class to purchase a
gift for a particular family member. Specific
information regarding the PSR participation in the Sponsor-a-Family at
Christmas program will be sent home with parents on November 23, 2009. November 2—All
Souls All Souls Day is rooted in the ancient Christian tradition of remembering and praying for all the faithful departed. PSR students and staff will be saying special prayers during the month of November for all those who have gone before us. ◊ We remember our relatives and friends who have died: Prayer
for All Souls Eternal
rest grant unto them, O’ Lord And
let perpetual light shine upon them. May
they rest in peace. Amen. May
their soul and all the souls of All
the faithful departed, Through
the mercy of God, Rest
in peace. Amen. ◊ October News: Honoring the
Blessed Mother During the month of October, we honor our Blessed Mother by praying the rosary. Catholic tradition tells us Mary encouraged praying the rosary in her apparitions at Lourdes when she appeared to Saint Bernadette. Mary encouraged the three children who saw her to pray the rosary for peace. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about this beautiful prayer. The rosary teaches us about the life of Jesus when we pray the various mysteries of the rosary—the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous Mysteries. PSR Mass The PSR community will attend mass on Monday, October 19, 2009. Students will go to their classroom at 6:15 p.m. Mass will begin at 6:30 p.m. Parents are encouraged to attend mass and may sit with their child’s class in church. All students will be dismissed from their classroom. Confirmation News The eighth grade students in our parish will be preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring of 2010. Grade eight parents—please mark your calendars: The Confirmation parent meeting will be on October 28th at 7:00 p.m. in the Lower Church. Parents are expected to attend this meeting. Please contact Mrs. Donna Koppy at 314-487-6520 ext. 2219 for additional information. Safe Touch The Safe Touch program is designed to teach personal safety to our children. Mrs. Nina Foshe is the Assumption Parish Safe Touch Facilitator. She will be presenting safety information to our PSR classes through the month of October. A letter outlining the Safe Touch program was sent home to all parents in September. To learn more about the Safe Touch program, please call Mrs. Donna Koppy at 314-487-6520 ext. 2219. Assumption Youth
Choir Children in Grades 3-8 are invited to join the Assumption Parish Youth Choir. The choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. mass on the last Sunday of the month. Please contact Mrs. Nancy Pyle or Mary Glynn Meyer for more information. All PSR students, parents, and staff are required to enter and exit the school building through the front entrance or the cafeteria doors. The PSR is not allowed to use the gym/Parish Center doors. ◊ Each year at the end of September and the beginning of October, we remember the holy angels, the great archangels, and our guardian angels. Angels are mentioned nearly 300 times in the Bible. During every mass, when we join with all the angels and saints in their song of praise, I know my guardian angel is singing with me: “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord!” And, when my days are over, I know that “the angels will lead me into paradise.” Psalm 91 assures us that God gave his angels charge over us to protect us in all of our ways. “They shall lift you up with their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” They protect us, minister to us, challenge us, make God’s will know to us, pray with us, and lead us home to God. When is the last time you recognized this very special creation and gift from God? Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen ◊ September Reminders: Please remember that there is a parent orientation meeting from 7:00 p.m. until 7:25 p.m. Monday 9/21 in the school cafeteria. It is important that all parents attend. This is your opportunity to be informed and involved. On Wednesday 9/23 is the first reconciliation parent meeting from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the church lower level. Only second grade parents attend; students do not attend. Tuesday 9/29 is High-School Night at Vianney. PSR Administrative Assistant We are please to introduce Mr. Matt Schoen as our new PSR Administrative Assistant. Mr. Schoen brings experience as a junior high language arts teacher, and database and web site developer to Assumption PSR. He is looking forward to meeting Assumption families and PSR staff this year. Don’t be shy—stop by the new PSR office to meet him and say hello. Mr. Schoen can be reached at schoenm@assumptionstl.org or 314-487-6520 ext. 2212. We’ve moved! Where is the new PSR office? We’ve moved to the second floor of Assumption School next to the library! We welcome visitors. The religion office is open Monday through Friday during normal business hours and by appointment. Assumption parish is fortunate to have generous faith-filled parishioners who volunteer to serve as catechists in our PSR Program. Some members of our staff have taught for a number of years, and we are grateful for their service and dedication to sharing the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ with the children of this parish. The Assumption PSR staff is dedicated to providing a quality religious education and formation program. We have three new catechists joining the PSR Staff this year: Mrs. Corie McKean has joined the PSR Staff as a third grade catechist. Mrs. McKean has experience as a teacher with a BA in elementary education as well as an M. A. in Early Childhood Education. She has worked with Camp Assumption. Mr. Patrick Prindiville and Mrs. Erin Prindiville will be serving as our new catechists in grade five. They both have a background working in various educational settings as well as Camp Assumption and AYM. But for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you have learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. —2 Timothy 3: 14—17 |
