This is my first year as a music teacher. I have had field studies at Mason Ridge Elementary in the Parkway School District and Hollman Middle in the Pattonville School District. In my recent work experience, I worked 2 years as a teacher assistant with the Special School District and 8 years at Little Sisters of the Poor as a Music Therapist. At LSP I led small and large groups and led a choir, bell choir and kitchen band. They performed for mass, out trips, plays and other events at the home. I also worked PRN at Forest Park Hospital with the Comprehensive Therapies department.
Educational Background
Degrees & Certification: I received a BS in Music Therapy from Maryville University in 1999. I became Music Therapy Board Certified (MT-BC) in June of 2001 and recertified in 2006. I did an internship with geriatrics and practicum with intergeneration (geriatric and preschool), multiple disabilities, deaf education, and psychiatrics.
I am currently working on an MAT in Music Education with certification at Missouri Baptist University. I have finished the educational requirements toward my certification. I have passed the Praxis ii: Music Content toward the certification and will be fully certified at the end of January. I will have finished my MAT by the end of next summer.
Hobbies
Besides music, I enjoy gardening, crafts, computers, reading (a wide variety of materials), photography, and Wii games.
Personal
I enjoy time with my family (including my cats), walking with my husband, spending time with my son and step-daughter and talking to my sisters (8), brother (1) and friends (many) on the phone and getting together with them when I can. My husband and I are in the church choir and the community choir at Missouri Baptist University. He only started singing with me in the last few years and it is a great joy to share the passion and experience of music making and performing.
